It’s my first year of trying to grow veg on a small allotment I’m sharing, and so far I’m really pleased with the results though it has been very slow this year due to all the rain we’ve had in the UK and a lack of sunlight.  I’m also in a constant battle with a massive population of slugs and snails which have been trying to eat everything coming out of the ground including onions which I think is unusual, but very common this year because of the wet conditions.

Wild Garlic Flowers

I went back to where I picked wild garlic leaves seven weeks ago before it flowered and now it’s in full bloom, so I picked some more leaves to make another batch of pesto, and also a few nettle tips which I cooked in an omelette later on with some chopped garlic leaves; very very tasty!

Milon at The Prom

Milon played at The Prom on Gloucester Rd in Bristol on Wednesday night so I went along and took photos as an exercise to try to get some good results in low light (without using flash) from my Nikon D90; a great camera but with the standard kit lens I’ve got it has limitations in low light, ie the widest aperture is f3.5 so it won’t let in a lot of light.  I decided to push the ISO setting to the limit to see what results I’d get and I’m pleased with what it was able to capture, though it helps to have a really steady hand and/or a tripod.  I took my tripod along but didn’t end up using it apart from the shot of the empty stage at the end, just so I could use a lower ISO setting and smaller aperture, which meant a longer exposure that I couldn’t do hand-held.
